Dad had a love for quotes. He love quotes that were inspiring, quotes that were uplifting, and quotes that were funny. He loved wit and wisdom. Of course, as you know, whenever someone decides they like something, everyone is buying that for that person as a gift for any occasion. We were no different. We bought dad the Little Book of Quotes, a poster of Construction Quotes. Dad eventually created a program to add a quote at the bottom of each of his invoices on his accounts payables. Dad also had a few quotes or sayings of his own: When I was considering moving out and was nervous because of all the money that it takes on a single person’s salary, dad looked at me and said “why worry now if you don’t know where you stand. You can’t do anything about it until you know, so find out and then you can take the right steps.” He was right and it alleviated my fear of the unknown. Other Daddy-O quotes which I’ve mentioned are: “When I help someone out, I consider it an investment” “D-Lish” with a thumbs up for momma’s cooking. “You’re a good one” “My Rose” “Let’s get as fast as we can” “Yes, Dear” He also did some non-verbal quotes but we knew what he was saying. One was the head nod with the hand wave, which meant: “Don’t get into it, it’s not worth it. It’s a fight you don’t want to start”. I especially was the recipient of this one often. Not daily, but probably weekly. I had a fiery attitude to go along with my red hair, and sometimes I didn’t know when to leave well enough alone. Unfortunately, on occasion, I’m still relearning that lesson. Another was when he pointed off in the distance which meant “reach out to your sister. She’s there for you.” Thumbs up…which meant “I’m proud of you” Daddy and I have that in common. I still have a passion for phrases and quotes of inspiration.
